NZ Opera Company

In the 21 years since the inception of New Zealand Opera, the company has presented over 460 opera performances to audiences of more than 730,000. The company has pioneered programmes for school children, young people and adults, and New Zealand Opera has a thriving artist development programme in association with the Dame Malvina Major Foundation.

Under the leadership of Thomas de Mallet Burgess, the company is re-imagining what opera might be in an Aotearoa – celebrating our cultural diversity in Māori and Pasifika arts, and finding ways of commissioning new work and touring models that support the country's regions.

Now is an exciting time for opera in Aotearoa. The company is experimenting with immersive and site-specific productions with exciting new works that tell our stories. All while contining to put on productions of size and quality, and supporting New Zealand singers working on a global stage.
