Tamashii Taiko Drummers

Tamashii was founded in 2007, by three passionate Auckland taiko fans. They created the group to share the art and sound of taiko.

Tamashii are a contemporary Japanese taiko drumming troupe best known for their high-energy performances, and for mixing martial arts movements into their performing style.

You may have seen Tamashii on TV1, TV3, WorldTV or SkySports. They were also part of the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony and have collaborated with many international artists.

Tamashii compose and choreograph their own music, design their own costumes, teach taiko classes, and have built all of their own drums - including the 2.6m tall giant drum the O-Daiko which is thought to be the largest performing drum in the Southern Hemisphere.
