Joe Carbery Swingtet

The Joe Carbery Swingtet plays modern and traditional swing music reminiscent of the small groups of the swing era. Count Basie, Chet Baker, Louis Jordan, Lester Young and Gerry Mulligan are just a few of their influences.

Founded on a solid rhythm section of pianist John Wilcox, bassist Stuart Lawrence and Don Hales on drums, the group has a front-line of Warwick Simpson on clarinet and Joe Carbery on alto and baritone saxophones, clarinet and vocals.

The band has been playing for many years and are regulars at the Bay of Islands Jazz Festival, The Auckland Jazz & Blues Club, Rotorua Jazz Society, Hamilton Jazz Society and the Northern Jazz Society.

The Rotorua Jazz Society called their music, “eminently danceable.”
